Insurance
Many food-business policies make a specialist clean of the whole extract system a condition of cover. Without the records, a fire claim can be refused.
Fire safety
Grease builds up inside ductwork you can't see. It's what turns a pan fire into a building fire.
Your lease & EHO
Landlords, managing agents and fire risk assessors ask for it. Have the paperwork ready when someone asks.
The whole system, not just the hood.
A clean that only covers the canopy isn't a TR19 clean.
Three steps. No closed kitchen.

TR19® Grease is the BESA specification for cleaning kitchen extract systems. After a clean to that specification the contractor issues a certificate and post-clean report showing what was cleaned, grease readings and photos, and when the next clean is due. It is the paperwork insurers, landlords and fire risk assessors ask to see.
TR19® Grease sets the interval by daily cooking hours: 2–6 hours a day, every 12 months; 6–12 hours a day, every 6 months; 12–16 hours a day, every 3 months. Heavy-grease cooking such as grills, woks, fryers and charcoal can need more often.
Typical London prices in September 2026 industry guides run £495–£1,200 for a small café, takeaway or pub, £1,200–£2,500 for a restaurant or busy pub, £3,000–£5,000+ for a hotel or multi-kitchen site, plus VAT. Duct length, access and grease levels move the price. Send a photo of your canopy and filters on WhatsApp for a ballpark price for your kitchen.
No. Cleans are booked overnight, after your last service, and finished before morning prep, so you open as normal. The exact start and finish are agreed when you book.
The canopy and plenum, the baffle filters, the ductwork and risers through access panels, the extract fan and the discharge, plus the certificate and before-and-after photo report. If a quote only covers the canopy, it is not a TR19 clean.
Yes. A certificate and photo report come after every clean. Keep them with your fire risk assessment and insurance documents; they are what an insurer or assessor will ask for.
Nightshift arranges every clean with an independent, VHR-registered contractor working to the BESA TR19® Grease specification. You get one point of contact for the quote, the booking and your reminders; the certificate is issued by the contractor who did the work.
Overnight is the standard. If you have an insurance renewal, landlord deadline or EHO visit coming up, WhatsApp the date with a photo of your canopy and we will tell you straight away whether it can be done in time.
